Jameson Platte, Cellist
Jameson Platte maintains an active career both as a performer and a teacher. He is currently a member of the critically acclaimed Axis quintet, the Conservatory Quartet, Duo 92 with pianist/composer Matthew Quayle, principal cellist of the Glens Falls Symphony, principal of the Orchestra of Northern New York and assistant principal of the Allentown Symphony. Mr. Platte works extensively as a clinician, guest conductor and cello coach, performs as a soloist and maintains a large private studio.
Mr. Platte has attended the Brevard Music Festival as a teaching assistant where he won the concerto contest. He also attended the Blossom Chamber Music Festival where he played principal cello under Leonard Slatkin. Mr. Platte has been a member of the Tuscaloosa Symphony (under Louis Lane), the Alabama Symphony and the Huntsville Symphony. Mr. Platte also served as Professor of Cello at the Montclair State University Preparatory Division and the Stokes Forest Music Festival. He has been a featured soloist with the Jacksonville Symphony, Allentown Symphony, Glens Falls Symphony, The Orchestra of Northern New York and the Stokes Forest Festival Orchestra, among others. Mr. Platte’s recordings of contemporary music may be heard under the Koch International and Seedmusic labels. Mr. Platte's principal teacher was Carlton McCreery; he has also pursued studies with such teachers as Yo-Yo Ma, Lynn Harrell, Mstislav Rostropovich, Harvey Shapiro and Carter Brey.
Alyssa Kim, Violinist, Goldwasser Young Artist Winner 2017
At the time of our competition, River Edge, NJ resident, Alyssa Kim, age 16, was in the eleventh grade at River Dell High School in Oradell, NJ. She has studied violin for twelve years, presently with Naoko Tanaka. Alyssa has served as concertmaster of the Manhattan School of Music’s Concert Orchestra and of the Juilliard Pre-College String Ensemble, and as principal for the Juilliard Pre-College Symphony and for the World Youth Alliance Orchestra Ensemble. Alyssa was Grand Prize winner of the Ensemble 212 Young Artist Concerto Competition and has won first prize in numerous competitions, including the NYIAA Young Artist Competition, the International Virtuoso Competition, and the NJ Intergenerational Orchestra Young Artist Competition. For our Concerto Competition Finals, Alyssa performed the first movement of the Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor. As First Place Winner, Alyssa will perform the entire Sibelius Violin Concerto in MSO’s third concert this season on April 21st, 2018.
Laura Hollander, Bassoonist
Laura Hollander is a freelance bassoonist and has played with many different orchestras throughout the
east coast including being principal bassoonist of the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra, Garden State
Philharmonic, Garden State Opera, and also performed with the Orchestra of St. Peter By the Sea. Ms.
Hollander is currently the bassoonist for the Monmouth Winds Quintet.
Ms. Hollander received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in 2001, where
she was a recipient of the George Eastman Scholarship. She studied with John Hunt and David Van
Hosen. In 2003 Ms. Hollander graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins
University with a Graduate Performers Diploma studying with Phillip Kolker, former principal bassoonist
of the Baltimore Symphony. Former teachers include Bernard Garfield, Sol Schoenbach, Kathleen
Vigilante, Leonard Hindell and Dr. Gines Cano. While having performed masterclasses for players
including Kimberly Walker, Matthew Ruggiero, Benjamin Rice, Richard Svoboda, Diane Bishop, Frank
Morelli, Gregg Henegar and Mark Popkin.
Ms. Hollander combines freelance work with educational work, which she is passionate about and
enjoys a busy teaching and coaching schedule. She has presented numerous masterclasses in the state.
Since 2008, Ms. Hollander is employed as a music teacher for the Neptune Board of Education.
